While cold water and cloudy skies don't seem like the perfect recipe for an August surfing competition, the combination worked out just fine for the Maryland ESA's previously postponed 4th contest of the 2003 season. The contest, which ran on Sunday, August 11, at 72nd street in Ocean City, experienced only a few sprinkles and the competitors enjoyed consistent surf throughout the day. Moderate south to southwest winds allowed the conditions to stay surfable throughout the day. In all slightly over 100 competitors participated in the event in 21 different divisions and the event wrapped up by 5:00 pm.
The next and final competition of the Eastern Surfing Association's Maryland District 2003 competition season will be the Maryland State Surfing Championships scheduled for Saturday August 30 at 47th St. in Ocean City, Md. Visit www.MarylansESA.org for events, news, surfing links and more than 4,000 surfing images from local contests.
