TED SMITH SWEEPS 2005 SEA WITCH SURF FEST WITH THREE FIRST PLACE AWARDS

A morning frost and a high temperature just breaking 50 degrees combined with 58 degree water brought chills to the 126 competitors from Maryland, Delaware and Virginia for the 2005 Sea Witch Surf Fest at the Delaware State Park in Dewey Beach on Saturday, October 29. Surfers that braved the cold were treated to waist to chest-high surf groomed by north/northwest winds for the day-long event.

Ocean City Maryland surfer Ted Smith dominated the competition with a clean sweep in three divisions; Mens shortboard, Mens longboard and the Open shortboard division. Smith's aggressive style and powerful maneuvers enabled him to out surf his competition. Two surfers on Smith's heals with two first-place finishes and a placing in the Open final were Art Baltrotsky of Berlin, Md. and Vince Boulanger of Ocean City Maryland.

Other standout surfers receiving first place in some of the larger divisions were Kyle Harman of Bishopville, Md. in Boys shortboard, Patrick Merkle of Street, Md. in Masters shortboard, Matt Landon of Ocean Pines, Md. in Menehune bodyboard, Mike Lawson of Ocean Pines, Md. in Open bodyboard, Kate Bassett of Berlin, Md. in Womens shortboard and Rachell Harrell of Ocean View, De. in the Girls shortboard division.

The Sea Witch Surf Fest was the ninth and final Delmarva ESA contest for 2005.
