Delmarva ESA team competes in U.S.A. Surfing Championships in Oceanside, California

ASCD Insurance and local surf shops send 22 surfers to compete in U.S.A. Surfing Championships in Oceanside, CA

Atlantic, Smith, Cropper & Deeley Insurance along with K-Coast Surf Shop, Malibu's Surf Shop, Quiet Storm Shops in Rehoboth and Lewes, Chauncey's Surf Shops, Endless Summer Surf Shop, Surfer Girl & Guy Surf Shop, Coastal Surf Supplies, Ocean Minded and Harrington's 7-11 in Ocean City have teamed up to help send twenty-two of the top surfers from the Delmarva region to compete in the 2006 USA Surfing Championships in Oceanside, California, July 11-18. With the inclusion of alternate surfers receiving slots, this is the largest group to ever travel from the Delmarva area to participate in this national event.

Delmarva surfers compete for points in local events throughout a year-long competition season. The top competitors with the most points from each age division receive an invitation to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Region Surfing Championships and then the top surfers from the regional event are invited to compete in the ESA Eastern Surfing Championships held in the Outer Banks of North Carolina in September. The top competitors from the Easterns get the prestigious invitation to compete in U.S.A. Surfing Championships in Oceanside, California.

The twenty-two surfers from the Delmarva District will be representing the Eastern Surfing Association and competing against top surfers from the west coast, gulf coast and Hawaii in this eight-day national event. The group also plans to travel to some of California's best surf spots including, Trestles, Malibu, Salt Creek and other famous surf spots.

The next Delmarva ESA event is the 12th annual Malibu's Classic, July 22 and 23 at 8th Street in Ocean City, MD. More than 200 competitors are expected to compete for prizes, points and trophies at this annual beach fest.

The Eastern Surfing Association (ESA), founded in 1967, a non-profit, IRS tax-exempt corporation, is the largest amateur surfing organization in the world with more than 7,000 members. It is dedicated to the sport of amateur surfing, to the operation of a program of amateur competition for surfers of all ages and abilities, and to the establishment and preservation of public access to a clean shoreline and ocean environment. The association's activities are organized in a total of twenty-six districts, which extend along nearly 2,000 miles of coastline, stretching from Maine through the Gulf Coast of Florida and Alabama and also around the Great Lakes.
