Press Release by White Whale Productions
The Delmarva ESA's next competition, Quiet Storm Wahine Surf-off, begins 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Tower Road State Park near Dewey Beach, Del. The contest is unique because it is for female surfers only and it supports the growing number of women surfers in the Delmarva Peninsula. Having an all womens event allows local female surfers to get to know each other and increase their confidence in a traditionally male-dominated sport.
Art Baltrotsky, Delmarva ESA district director stated, “Girls who usually don't compete will come out to an all girls contest and then hopefully they will compete at other contests as well.”
The competition, which is in its second year, will feature shortboard, longboard and bodyboard divisions. A new 8' Walden Wahine surfboard will be given away to one lucky competitor and there will be prizes for all age divisions. Competitors will also receive a free competition t-shirt and Nicola pizza for lunch. There will even be a fun “guys dressed as girls” division, which awards creative, as well as surfing, skills.
“It's a really mellow and cool event,” Baltrotsky said. “Last year it was great and a lot of new female surfers came out to compete.”
